2008/09 Jr. Chiefs Win Provincial Gold

The 2008/09  Mississauga Jr. Chiefs continued their winning ways bringing home the Gold at the Provincial Championships.

The Chiefs came into the weekend sporting 2 gold medals and 3 silvers from tournament play and continue to battle for first place in the P.W.H.L.

The final pitted the Jr. Chiefs against 2 time defending Provincial Champions Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres.

Stoney Creek started fast scoring twice in the first five minutes and held that lead late into the third period when a powerplay goal by the Chiefs got them back into the game.

Moments later the Chiefs scored the tying goal sending their fans into a frenzy.  With their supporters chanting “Let’s Go Chiefs”  they continued to pressure the Sabres eventually drawing a penalty. The Chiefs were able to capitalize on the powerplay scoring the go-ahead goal with just under two minutes to go then hung on for the 3 – 2 win.

The Chiefs motto of “Never Back Down” was never more evident than in this championship game.
